The Nativity Story. NOTE: This review is in no way intended to infer or imply an endorsement of the movie by the Lord Thy God and/or His affiliates.
This movie made history when its world premier was held at the Vatican…the first time ever for such an event at the Vatican. In a time when most Christmas movies are about snowmen, reindeer or even Santa Clause, this movie brings us the real Christmas story. Set over 2000 years ago, the movie takes us through Mary and Joseph’s lives, which was not easy. It shows how they met and married, Mary’s pregnancy and their infamous and long journey to Bethlehem for the birth of baby Jesus. The movie even includes the evil Herod and his efforts to stop the prophecies from coming true and some light moments from the Three Wise Men who bring some funny moments to the film.
The Nativity Story is just a very well done, big-budget Hollywood version of a classic story. It seems historically authentic, but at the same time it has that overwhelming Biblical feel, which is perfect for this kind of movie. It is, however, a little more violent in parts than what you'll see in church on Christmas Eve. And, because it's so true to the traditional storyline, there's not a great deal of suspense. There is, though, some powerful and heartwarming drama, as well as some wonderful scenery. The Nativity Story, of course, won't be anywhere near as emotional or controversial as Passion of the Christ, but many will find it a moving depiction of the epic story.
